iWink
I was on my way to work this morning, my trusty ipod spilling out songs for me.
Usually while I’m driving, I set the ipod to “shuffle songs”. Keeps me from having to do anything, and I get to hear songs that I might not have chosen myself.
The first song that played was “We Fall Down” by Chris Tomlin. What a great way to start a drive! I belted out the song right along with Chris.
The next song that played was “Natural Woman” by Aretha Franklin. Who doesn’t love Aretha?? As I sang along, I really listened to the words and thought, “Wow, this is a great worship song!” For anyone who may not be familiar, here are the lyrics:
Looking out on the morning rain
I used to feel so uninspired
And when I knew I had to face another day
Lord, it made me feel so tired
Before the day I met you, life was so unkind
But your love was the key to peace my mind
Cause you make me feel, you make me feel, you make me feel like
A natural woman
When my soul was in the lost-and-found
You came along to claim it
I didn’t know just what was wrong with me
Till your kiss helped me name it
Now I’m no longer doubtful of what I’m living for
Cause if I make you happy I don’t need no more
Cause you make me feel, you make me feel, you make me feel like
A natural woman
Oh, what you’ve done to me
You make me feel so good inside
And I just want to be close to you
You make me feel so alive
Cause you make me feel, you make me feel, you make me feel like
A natural woman
See what I mean? Wow! Awesome song got even awesomer!
I was thinking of some of the other secular music I have on my ipod, and thought of what else would be a good worship song. The first one I thought of was “Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours” by Stevie Wonder. As “Natural Woman” faded to a close, I was running the Stevie Wonder song through my head, thinking, “I’d love to hear that.” For anyone unfamiliar with that one, here are the lyrics:
Like a fool I went and stayed too long
Now I’m wondering if your love’s still strong
Oo, baby, here I am, signed, sealed, delivered, I’m yours!
Then that time I went and said goodbye
Now I’m back and not ashamed to cry
Oo, baby, here I am, signed, sealed, delivered, I’m yours!
Here I am baby
Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I’m yours
(You got my future in your hands)
Here I am baby
Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I’m yours
(You got my future in your hands)
I’ve done a lot of foolish things
That I really didn’t mean, didn’t I?
Seen a lot of things in this old world
When I touch them, they mean nothing, girl
Oo, baby, here I am, signed, sealed, delivered, I’m yours!
Oowee baby, you set my soul on fire
That’s why I know you’re my heart’s only desire
Here I am baby
Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I’m yours
(You got my future in your hands)
Here I am baby
Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I’m yours
(You got my future in your hands)
Now, as a worship song, I guess one would have to change the “baby”s into “Lord”s or “Jesus”es, but aside from that, wow, pretty powerful.
Well, don’t'cha know, the next song up on my ipod was “Signed, Sealed, Delivered”! I laughed out loud, it was such a Godwink!!
It’s not like I only have 4 songs on my ipod, I’ve got about 400. The odds of that song coming up just as I was thinking of it in a worship context, well, I guess it’s 1 in 400. Not impossible odds, but I knew it wasn’t coincidence.
It was God. He was jammin’ with me on my way to work this morning. And it’s okay with Him that my singing sounds like a wild animal caught in a trap.

great seed thoughts for new worship songs. God can use everything in the environment…is anything impossible for God? the possibilities are
endless
